Can I apply for an account?

Yes, we do accept new account customers subject to receiving acceptable references. Please contact us to arrange for an account form to be sent to you.

Can I obtain advice on the correct type of concrete to be used?

Yes, providing there is no structural requirement we can advise on the types of mixes to be used for most jobs.

How long should I cure my concrete (driveway, path, slab, etc.)?

This question can only be answered by the professionals associated with the project. Concrete cures at different rates depending on the constituent ingredients and the ambient conditions it is exposed to. Your laying contractor should know what sort of curing is required for the particular mix being used. Also, by following their recommendation, you can maintain whatever warranty might be associated with the work performed.

How long do I have to place and finish the concrete?

Under normal conditions, concrete has a useable life of about 2 hours. However, in summer it will lose workability more rapidly. Ideally, it should be placed and completely finished within 1 hour of discharge from the truck-mixer.

Does concrete gain strength by drying out?

Concrete gains strength whilst hydration (the reaction between water and the chemicals in cement) takes place. This reaction forms new compounds and crystals interlocking themselves and aggregates together. This generally occurs over the first month after placing the concrete. Small strength gains could take place for years as long as moisture is still present. When the concrete does finally dry out, it stops gaining strength.

Is your concrete accredited?

Yes, our Concrete is produced to BSI Standards

How is the strength of concrete measured?

Scientists use compression and flexural mechanical strength tests to determine the strength of concrete. The strength of concrete depends to a large degree on the water-cement ratio, and the quality of the aggregates and paste in the cement.

What are your operating hours?

We work from 6:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, & 7:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday.

Are you able to pour the concrete exactly where I need it?

Yes, provided there is adequate access and our mixer chutes can reach. Alternatively, you can move the concrete to your laying area via a pump, dumper or wheelbarrow.

How many wheelbarrow loads are there in a cubic metre of concrete?

About 18-20.

How much concrete can your mixers carry?

We operate both 8 cu metre and 6 cu metre capacity mixers.

I think I need two loads of concrete but unsure how much I need on my second load?

We can deliver the first load, you can then re-measure & tell us your remaining amount.

I’m unclear on how much concrete I should use, what should I do?

Measure carefully then use our concrete calculator to convert to cubic metres. Given that each 0.1 cu m is c. £10 – £15 depending on the strength, if your base is uneven allow yourself some leeway with your measurements.

Will your mixer driver help me lay my concrete?

Sorry, the driver needs to remain in charge of their vehicle at all times during a delivery.

What happens if I have more concrete than I need?

We dispose of any excess concrete at no extra charge.

Do you supply pumps?

We work alongside trusted pump operators and can put you in touch with them. Pumps generally take about ½ hour to set up and usually require a minimum strength of a GEN3 mix to pass easily through the line.

Do you supply wheelbarrows to help me move my concrete?

Sorry, we do not.

If I am going to exceed my time will you just tip off the remaining concrete?

If you do not wish to pay for any excess time, we will tip off any remaining concrete, ideally onto a tarpaulin.

How much time do I get to unload my concrete?

You have 30 minutes ‘free time’, thereafter time is charged at £1.50 + vat per minute.

What is a slump?

It is the industry terminology for how wet or dry the concrete is batched at.
